Overview

Welcome to Greenburgh Academy!
Academic Program
The academic program at Greenburgh Academy (GA) prepares students for Regents Diplomas, local diplomas with an opportunity to achieve an additional career development credential through exposure to the CDOS Curriculum. The New York State Learning Standards in the seven content areas guide the GA curriculum. As a result, students are prepared to successfully pass the Regents examinations. Academic Intervention Services (AIS) are offered to improve reading and math skills as well as a means of providing needed preparation for NYS Regents examinations. All classes across curriculum areas have eight students, one teacher and one teacher assistant (8:1:1).
Therapeutic Supports
At Greenburgh Academy, therapeutic services are woven into the fabric of the middle and high school experience, catering to the diverse needs of students. Through innovative approaches like dog therapy and horse therapy, students engage in animal-assisted interventions to foster emotional regulation and build trust. Complementing these unique modalities, the school offers access to an individual in-house social worker who provides personalized support and guidance.
Moreover, the staff is well-equipped with training in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCIS) and dialectical behavioral training (DBT), ensuring a comprehensive approach to mental health and crisis management. Embracing Social Emotional Learning (SEL) principles across campus, students are empowered to develop essential life skills and cultivate resilience. Positive behavior systems (PBS) are embedded within the school culture, emphasizing proactive strategies to reinforce positive conduct and maintain a supportive learning environment conducive to growth and well-being. Through this holistic framework, Greenburgh Academy fosters not only academic success but also the holistic development of its students.
Post-Secondary Opportunities
At Greenburgh Academy, the Transition department plays a pivotal role in guiding students towards their post-secondary goals, be it college, vocational training, military service, or employment. With a commitment to college and career readiness, the school offers a diverse array of options tailored to individual aspirations. Vocational training opportunities abound, with internships at local organizations providing invaluable hands-on experience for juniors and seniors.
Summer programs (Extended School Year-ESY) further enrich students' readiness through paid internships, credit-bearing course recovery, and engaging field trips aimed at broadening their perspectives. Additionally, partnerships with Westchester Community College (WCC) offer specialized programs in Culinary, Pre-Med, and Hospitality fields, allowing students to immerse themselves in industry-specific training while still enrolled at GA. Through these initiatives, Greenburgh Academy empowers students to transition seamlessly into their chosen paths, equipped with the skills and experiences necessary for success in their post-secondary endeavors.
